The coastal settlement of Agios Pavlos is located 58 km south of Rethymno and west of Agia Galini. It is a closed sheltered bay with a rocky bottom. Above the beach there is the church of Agios Pavlos, while in the open sea you can see the two islets of Paximadia, whose imposing appearance entwined myth with tradition, creating infinite stories.
Although the beach in front of the settlement is quite beautiful, many of the visitors use Agios Pavlos as a starting point to discover the nearby idyllic beach of Alatsogremni with its sand dunes. The beach is located behind the western end of the bay and is one of the best beaches of Rethymnon. You can get there by a stepped path that goes up from the beach of Agios Pavlos. According to the estimates of some researchers, Saint Paul took refuge on this beach during his journey to Rome, and not in Selouda of Sfakia.
